3t Transform welcomes engineering and manufacturing community

We were delighted to open our doors to members of the Engineering and Manufacturing Network (EMN) to host its marketing lunch and learn with b2b marketing company Horizon Works.

Attendees were treated to a presentation, and demonstration, by our lead virtual reality (VR) developer, Dan Page.

Dan provided an introduction to VR technology and its applications to support staff training, by encouraging engagement, increasing information retention and building muscle memory. He also highlighted that with VR you can’t just click next on a training video!

VR immerses you in the training and the situation and encourages you to do physical activities.

This was demonstrated when attendees were invited to put on a headset and complete a training scenario. Users had to complete a series of quality checks, such as putting on a harness and turning off a valve, before entering the confined space of a tank on an oil and gas vessel.

The feedback from this experience was great with users commenting on the ease of use of the technology and how ‘life-like’ it all felt.

Another benefit of VR training is that users are able to experience what happens if they don’t follow the correct procedures and can learn how to react in dangerous and disaster situations without threat of harm. Examples included experiencing a gas leak explosion and working at height.

Dan also spoke about our digital twin offering of being able to create a virtual clone of anything from a small device through to a large FPSO (floating production system). Like this example we did with BP.

We were able to have some fantastic discussions with attendees around the endless sector opportunities and scenarios it can benefit. Which including training surgeons and those working on construction sites.

Jenny Ashton-Smith, head of marketing at 3t Transform commented on the event: “It was a pleasure to play host to members of the EMN for its lunch and learn event with our marketing partner Horizon Works.

“We were able to demonstrate how our technology can provide learning in a safe environment, often at a reduced cost to in person training, for those working in hazardous or difficult to reach areas. But also, that its applications are wide and really only restrictive of your own imagination.

“We look forward to running more events and keeping in touch with those who attended.”

Kaye Collins, network manager at the EMN added: “I was so impressed by the applications of the technology and how it could provide a real benefit to a range of our members.”

“Dan and the 3t Transform team delivered a great introduction to VR and digital twins and I think we were all left feeling blown away by the possibilities it can deliver. I’d encourage members to speak to 3t Transform about how VR can help them in their business save time and costs on training and familiarising people with their working environment. If you weren’t able to attend, then I would suggest you contact 3t for more information.”

The EMN regularly runs events to encourage networking, provide learning opportunities and facilitating the growth of a strong and collaborative community of businesses, you can find out more here and we’d encourage you to look at attending its flagship event EMCON on 8th September.

Horizon Works was also on hand to provide marketing advice and support to attendees around launching innovative products to market – more details on that can be found here.
