Valaris embraces virtual training to deliver well control skills to its personnel

Valaris is continuing to maintain the very highest safety standards throughout the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to Drilling Systems’ iDrillSIM virtual simulator.

When the pandemic hit, Valaris responded swiftly by purchasing Drilling Systems’ highly innovative cloud-based simulator iDrillSIM in May 2020, enabling it to deliver IADC WellSharp live virtual well control training to personnel across the world.

More than 400 Valaris personnel from 28 countries have been trained in IADC Supervisor and Driller Level Well Control standards using the iDrillSIM.

The iDrillSIM uses the same tried and tested drilling and well control training software developed by Drilling Systems with the oil and gas industry over decades. It is therefore very familiar to Valaris personnel who have been using Drilling Systems’ simulators for in-person classroom training for many years.

Accessed through a web browser via tablet, laptop or desktop computer from anywhere in the world, the iDrillSIM has allowed Valaris to create virtual learning events with multiple people logging on from around the world.

These virtual classrooms have ensured Valaris personnel stay compliant on well control training despite global restrictions around travel and in-centre classroom training.

Eliot Doyle from Valaris said: “Delivering virtual simulator training with the iDrillSIM has been invaluable during the pandemic. It has helped us to continue educating our workforce regardless of where they are in the world – ensuring competency and compliance. Following the success of the system, we are now planning to continue using the iDrillSIM for internal Well Control training delivery when appropriate even after the pandemic. It will help us provide information and knowledge to our offshore population for some time to come.”
