3t Partners with Career Ready to Inspire Next Generation of Energy Industry Professionals

3t’s Aberdeen training centre recently hosted an exciting event, in collaboration with national social mobility charity, Career Ready, bringing together young people aged 16-17 from across the region for an immersive introduction to offshore safety training and the energy industry.

Over the past three weeks, three groups of students have experienced hands-on training including marine simulation, HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training), fire safety simulation, freefall lifeboat exercises and survival pool training.

The initiative forms part of Career Ready’s innovative programme that matches school students with industry mentors and provides valuable work experience during holidays. Students visit businesses across Aberdeen to gain real insights into the energy sector, helping them make informed decisions about their future careers. The visit to 3t’s training centre brings the participants from different schools and career paths together, offering valuable peer-to-peer learning opportunities and demonstrating the various pathways available in the energy industry.

“This partnership with Career Ready allows us to give young people genuine insight into what offshore training involves, and the type of skills needed for careers in the energy sector,” said Calum Lawrie, Senior Key Account Manager at 3t.

“It’s been fantastic to welcome the students to our Aberdeen training centre and to see them come together, build teams, and really appreciate the professionalism required in our industry.

“These Friday sessions not only provide essential training insights but also give the students a chance to celebrate their hard work and achievements with their mentors.”

The programme supports Aberdeen’s position as a leading energy hub, exposing students to opportunities across both oil and gas operations and the growing renewables sector. By bringing together participants following different paths – whether heading to college, straight into work or considering their options – the initiative ensures they gain valuable industry insights.

For students considering careers in the energy industry, the programme provides an authentic taste of the training, teamwork, and safety standards that define offshore operations, helping them make informed decisions about their future career paths.
