3t Training Services is delighted to announce that our newest training vessel has been named ‘George Masson’, in honour of the incredible contribution made by one of our longest-serving instructors. George has dedicated more than 35 years to offshore marine safety training, working under several company names over the decades, including RGIT, RGIT Montrose, Petrofac Training, AIS-Survivex, and now 3t Training Services. Throughout that time, he has shared his knowledge, supported countless colleagues, and inspired generations of trainees, making this a truly fitting tribute.
For day-to-day operations, the vessel will go by ‘GM 4’, a more practical identifier that keeps things simple while its ceremonial name celebrates George’s legacy.
The ‘George Masson’ will primarily be used to deliver the OPITO-approved ERRV Crew Daughter Craft Coxswain course. Running two to three times a month, with small groups of up to three delegates, the vessel will provide hands-on training in a safe, supportive environment.
George said:
“The decision to name the vessel after me is a great honour. It is a privilege to be recognised in this way. I have now worked here for over 35 years under various company names, including RGIT, RGIT Montrose, Petrofac Training, AIS-Survivex, and now 3t Training Services. There have been many great instructors and managers that I have worked alongside, from whom I have learned a great deal. It is gratifying to know that ‘George Masson’ will continue to serve here, long after my retirement.”
George’s career has shaped the standards of offshore marine safety training for more than three decades, and we are delighted to see his name carried forward on this vessel, supporting future generations of trainees for years to come.
