Meet Lois

Lois is one of our hard-working Business Development Managers, specialising in the extensive marine training portfolio at AIS Survivex.

30-year-old Lois knows everything there is to know about marine training, having worked in the sector for the past decade supporting our marine clients.

Born and bred in Montrose, Lois originally started her career as an Early Years Practitioner. Even though her little charges were adorable, Lois quickly realised it wasn’t for her and after a few short months decided to go to university to study business management instead.

To fund her university studies, Lois secured a job as part of the bookings team at a well-known training provider based in her hometown of Montrose. The centre is accredited by OPITO, STCW and RYA and has an outstanding reputation, having delivered world-class marine training for over 40 years.

Lois ended up staying and has worked in training ever since, covering everything from admin support to booking courses, updating records and supporting training management service clients.

Lois said:

“Although I originally started in training to fund my university degree, I enjoyed it so much I didn’t want to leave. I worked full-time through the day and concentrated on my studies in the evening until successfully completing my degree. It was tough at the time but I’m so glad I did it.

“During my ten years here, I’ve gained masses of experience in both the marine and oil and gas industries and have an in-depth knowledge of all the competencies and skills required to keep people safe.

“On a typical day, I’ll reach out to clients, undertake site visits, prepare quotes, give tours of our facility and offer tons of invaluable advice and support.

“No two days are ever the same – it’s extremely fast paced but that’s what makes it so interesting.”

Investing in the marine sector…

Earlier this year, AIS Survivex invested more than £850,000 in the very latest freefall and twin fall lifeboat simulator technology.

This major investment means we are the only place in the world to offer lifeboat training for coxswains both practically in the harbour and virtually via a simulator for freefall and twin fall escape scenarios.

Lois explains:

“When we got the new lifeboat simulators, I was buzzing. To see them first-hand and show them to our clients has been really exciting.

“The simulators give our clients another option for training and allow them to experience all weather conditions, in a safe environment. They are just another example of what makes AIS Survivex the best in the business.

“But for me, the best thing about AIS Survivex is the people. The support. The close working relationships. The banter. The clients. It’s all fantastic. Working with the people I do every day makes my job feel effortless.”

Helping people is in Lois’ blood. During COVID, she volunteered for a local charity – the Montrose Community Trust – giving out hot meals to people in the community who couldn’t get out of the house. We’re extremely proud of her.
