UK’s largest energy sector training provider to raise skills levels across Tees Valley

The UK’s largest energy sector training provider, AIS Survivex, which is part of 3t Energy Group, is set to open a new training facility in the heart of Teesside to support the region’s skills improvement plans.

The facility, which is located in the Cannon Park area of Middlesbrough, will offer training across key growth sectors for the Tees Valley region including wind, oil and gas, construction, utilities, and processing industries, with capacity to train tens of thousands of delegates per year.

This ambitious project will see the installation of a dedicated wind training centre featuring a 24-foot-high training tower, climbing and rescue platforms to mirror those on a wind turbine, as well as mechanical and electrical training facilities and expert instructors to equip aspiring wind turbine technicians with all the key mandatory and technical skills.

In addition to wind, the training centre will also support Tees Valley’s long-standing processing and heavy industries, along with new industries such as carbon capture, bringing a huge selection of accredited health and safety courses to companies and individuals in the local area.

AIS Survivex is committed to the region having opened a joint venture fire training facility with neighbouring County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service last September to train offshore workers in the area in offshore firefighting skills.

The project will initially see the creation of 12 new jobs in Teesside with instructor, administrative and management roles amongst the opportunities on offer, and further expansion expected in the near future.

Emma Howorth, General Manager England at AIS Survivex, said:

“Teesside is an important location for industry with a significant highly skilled workforce and is an exciting new location for us. We are looking forward to supporting local companies with all their training and skills needs.

“Sector specific skills shortages remain a key challenge for business and AIS Survivex has an exceptional track record of developing competent and talented workers with the appropriate skill sets that industry needs. As well as helping new customers across the entire Tees Valley area, our Teesside centre will also provide more choice and more training locations for our existing clients.”

AIS Survivex is the UK’s largest energy sector training provider and has some of the industry’s most prestigious names as clients including bp, Wood, Siemens and Bilfinger. Its new Teesside centre marks the seventh UK location for the company, which also boasts flagship training centres in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Manchester and London.

The first courses in Teesside are expected to run from the end of July.
